Research & Scholarship

My research curiosities include:

  • Seeking ways to broaden professional development opportunities for music educators at various career stages and musical contexts, making them more accessible and relevant.

  • Empowering music teachers to create professional development opportunities best suited for their individual teaching style and context.

  • Transforming the way mentoring is traditionally defined and carried out as a one-to-one hierarchical relationship between an experienced and novice teacher.

  • Developing mentoring networks to expand music teacher collaboration and connections–from preservice cohorts to inservice teachers within and across districts–focused on building communities, reducing teacher isolation, and increasing teacher retention.

  • Designing new or transforming existing mentoring programs to be more equitable, collaborative, inclusive, meaningful, and engaging for mentors and mentees.

  • Incorporating mindfulness and self-compassion strategies in music classrooms to promote teacher and student wellness.
